Garba Brondel

A Galgastani who served his clan in battle. He was the son of renowned architect Selba Brondel. His twin brother Orba was slain by Denam at Tynemouth.

Garba had won fame as a political philosopher, penning works such as "The Creed of the Self-Deceived" and "Failing of Present-Day Doctrine." Though initially an advocate of progressive politics, he took a more nationalistic tone after hearing the words of Hierophant Balbatos. He stated in one address, "Nothing can assuage the resentment we harbor toward the Walister, though we may know it unjust." The way he calmly vanquished his opponents in argument earned him the name "Garba the Silver-Tongued."

He was slain by Denam Pavel on the Xoed Moors while marching to engage Resistance forces at Balmamusa.

Appearances

Garba makes only a single appearance, in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Togther. In Chapter 2 of the Law path, as Denam traveled to Port Asyton, he encoutered Garba commanding a small force of troops on the Xoed Moors. Both he and Denam engaged in a minor philosophical contest during the course of the battle over the reason why they fight and take part in this war of clans.

His fate is left unknown in the Chaos path. Unfortunately, his patriotism for Galgastan likely ment he continued to fight on the side of the Hierophant during the closing days of Balbatos' reign, and died in battle against the Walister just the same.

Dialogue

'Denam of Golyat? I see a rumor in the flesh! Then Balmamusa was no feint after all. Ha!'

[To one of his soldiers]

'You there. His eminence must hear of this. Go! Now!'

[The soldiers leaves]

'We must halt their advance as long as we can. Remember, we fight not for ourselves. We fight for Galgastan!'

- Upon Garba's First Turn -

'Only your blood can pay the price for those you've slain.'

Denam: Then we share a grim cause. But I bear you no malice; it is war makes us enemies. And as enemies, we must fight!

'The simple reasoning of youth! I expected more than that.'

Denam: The hatred I bear for you is anything but young. I carry on the struggle of my father, and his father before him. I am the wrath of the Walister!

- Upon Garba's Second Turn -

'The struggle of your father... that's cause enough to fight. Cause we share. The roots of the conflict between Galgastani and Walister do run deep. But you must look past your hatred to see your true foe. The sins of the father trap the son.'

Denam: And what of you? Do you not harbor some hurt that drives you to fight?

'I'll not deny I do. My twin brother, Orba - you killed him.'

Denam: I... I did not know.

'Say nothing. There's nothing to say. It was the will of the Wheel he die at you hands.'

- Low Health -

'I said only your blood could atone, but I was wrong. We must set aside the wounds we carry if there is to be any true atonement. It is with this knowledge that I fight... but I do not expect you to understand. You are yet young, naive... common.'

Denam: Not so naive that I am blind to the wounds you carry.

'Forgive me. Fault is most difficult to see in oneself. Let me be your mirror, then. So long as there is vengence in your heart, your victories wil turn to ash. But you must know this only too well, Butcher of Golyat!'

Denam: ...

- Upon Death -

'If only I had heeded... my own advice. It was I naive... foolish.'
